Academic staff

The Permanent Representation of Denmark to the European Union is looking for academic staff for the Danish EU Presidency (local staff).

Would you like to join our team during the Danish EU Presidency in the second half of 2025?

The Permanent Representation is looking for three locally employed academic staff for the Danish EU Presidency. The positions will be temporary from January 2025 to 31 January 2026.

You will have a unique opportunity to get to know the engine room of the EU and to work closely with major issues on the European political agenda. You will assist in organising negotiations in the EU and in the internal coordination within the Permanent Representation.

In all three positions, you will carry out work in close cooperation with colleagues at the Permanent Representation, contacts in the EU institutions and with the ministries in Copenhagen.

You should be willing to take personal responsibility, be outgoing, flexible, a good team player, and be able to see the broader picture. At the same time, it is important that you can prioritise tasks and work independently while meeting set deadlines.

We value good networking, collaboration and communication skills. Prior knowledge of the Danish central administration and/or practical EU experience would be an advantage, but it is not a requirement. The working languages are Danish and English, while knowledge of French is an advantage but not a requirement.

The three positions are as follows:
Two academic staff members for Antici and Mertens teams

The Antici Group and the Mertens Group prepare the weekly meetings at ambassadorial level of the Permanent Representatives Committee (Coreper).

The Antici Group prepares the meetings of Coreper II, which deals with economic issues, foreign policy, justice and home affairs, institutional matters and prepares the meetings of the Heads of State and Government in the European Council.

The Mertens Group prepares Coreper I meetings dealing with files in the areas of internal market, industry, employment, social policy, health, digitalisation, fisheries, food, transport, maritime, environment, climate and energy, research and education, youth and culture, audiovisual and sport.

As part of our Antici or Mertens team, you will be at the very core of the Presidency. You will thus contribute to the preparation of meetings at ambassadorial level in Coreper as well as at the ministerial level in the Council.

In your day-to-day work, you will be the point of contact for colleagues in the Permanent Representation on horizontal issues related to planning, coordination and organisational matters. You will also frequently coordinate with colleagues from ministries in Copenhagen and from the EU institutions.

One academic staff member for the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy.

We are looking for an academic staff member for the Permanent Representation’s Department for the EU’s Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP). Here, you will assist in promoting Danish interests in EU’s foreign and security policy, including participating in negotiations in the Council and meetings of the EU’s Political and Security Committee (PSC). The tasks can be multifaceted and may also include, for example, the preparation of reports and presentations, as well as information gathering and internal coordination.
